Joe Ferguson was born in Alvin, Texas, and came out of Woodlawn High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. From there his career ran through college football at Arkansas and the 1973 NFL Draft, where the Buffalo Bills took him in the third round.
Ferguson followed Terry Bradshaw as Woodlawn's quarterback and won the 1968 state title, was MVP of the 1971 Liberty Bowl at Arkansas, and played 17 NFL seasons — twelve with Buffalo, where he led the league in touchdown passes in 1975 and passing yards in 1977 and joined the Bills Wall of Fame.
He was selected in the 3rd round (No. 57 overall) of the 1973 NFL Draft. His professional career included 4 teams: Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts.
