How we count

Most Super Bowl QBs by City

Which city has produced the most Super Bowl starting quarterbacks? It depends how you count — so here is every way.

Ask which city has produced the most Super Bowl starting quarterbacks and the honest reply is that it depends how you count. By birthplace, Shreveport, Louisiana, and Pittsburgh are tied at three apiece. Count only high schools inside the city limits and Shreveport leads outright, with three quarterbacks from three different schools. Widen the lens to a metro region and Western Pennsylvania pulls ahead with six. Every count here runs through Super Bowl LX in February 2026.

1. By birthplace city

We took all 69 quarterbacks who have started Super Bowls I through LX and recorded each player's birthplace from his Wikipedia profile, spot-checked against Pro-Football-Reference. Only four cities have more than one:

CitySuper Bowl starting QBsStarts
Shreveport, LA3 — Bradshaw 4 · Woodley 1 · Humphries 16
Pittsburgh, PA3 — Kelly 4 · Unitas 1 · Marino 16
New Orleans, LA2 — P. Manning 4 · E. Manning 26
Cincinnati, OH2 — Staubach 4 · Wilson 26

Jim Kelly is listed as born in Pittsburgh by Pro-Football-Reference, ESPN and Wikipedia; some sources say East Brady, Pennsylvania, where he grew up. If East Brady is correct, Shreveport stands alone at No. 1. Tom Brady's hometown, San Mateo, California, has the most total starts (10), all by one quarterback.

2. By high school inside the city limits

Shreveport is the only city whose own high schools produced three different Super Bowl starting quarterbacks.

3. By metro area or region

Counted by where each quarterback played high school football, bigger regions pull ahead — Western Pennsylvania leads — and Shreveport–Bossier sits in a tie for fourth.

4. Per capita

Super Bowl starting QBs per million residents: Shreveport's 3 against a Shreveport–Bossier metro of about 547,000, versus the Pittsburgh metro's 4 (Namath, Unitas, Montana, Marino, by high school) against about 2.4 million. Metro population figures depend on the metro definition used. That is about 5.5 per million for Shreveport–Bossier versus about 1.6 for the Pittsburgh metro.

Louisiana's Super Bowl quarterbacks

Seven Louisiana natives have started a Super Bowl: Terry Bradshaw, David Woodley, Stan Humphries, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Doug Williams and Jake Delhomme. Together they have 15 starts, and three of the seven are from Shreveport.
